Kirsty Mason
I am a final year BA (Hons) Final Art student whose practise utilises photography and image transfer, to explore the different ways in which photos and historical paintings can be appropriated and transformed. My most recent piece entitled ‘Water Lilies after Monet’ portrays a painting by historical artist Claude Monet transferred onto unstretched canvas fabric, that is reworked with acrylic paint to question the likes of Romanticism. I study appropriation in order to question the dynamics and expectations of fine art as a practise; and use foliage and nature as a primary theme to explore the breakdown of colour when using the medium of image transfer. All the work I create is experimental and has no predetermined outcome due to my fascination in movement and material over final product. Individuals interpretation of the different textures within my pieces fuels the approach I take within the works, and I aim to keep utilising the transfer process as my main medium in the future.
