My discipline specialises in couture womenswear, as I enjoy using fashion as a platform to tell a story - my project encapsulates the opposing qualities of life present in Dubai: one full of glamour, glitz and opportunities; the other, exploitation and abuse. I have presented a narrative of two opposing characters with the first pursuing a dominating and extravagant ego, and the second focusing on the forgotten figures with a lost sense of identity. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional pattern cutting and fabric choice as I allow draping to inform my design process and have used unconventional materials. I also enjoy exploring transformable pieces as this was a key design element in my entry for the SQI competition, and upon winning an internship with the brand I shall be assisting the design of skiwear that can transition into streetwear pieces, elongating the wearability of the garments.
