Jasmine Martell-Brown
I am a final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student from Derbyshire. At Nottingham Trent University I developed my skills and became an ephemeral clay sculptor who is inspired by the memories imbued within the rural landscape. Coming from the countryside to Nottingham there were not many green spaces, so my practice seeks to replicate the feeling of returning to the land in a built-up city whilst also drawing upon feminist and mythical narratives of the land. In particular, work like my ceramic ‘Garden Ladies’ are made with the intention of being placed outdoors to become a part of nature. Consequently, the sculptures have an amorphous, archaic and weathered quality. With inspirations like Richard Long, Ana Mendieta and Anya Gallaccio the ephemerality but longevity of my work is key and is what contributes towards the sense of longing to be with nature. Having worked for small art businesses in the past, after graduating I hope to continue my practice in Sheffield and set up my own business.
