Scarlett Royle

My love for costume stems from my desire to create art, experiment with fabric, and tell stories through clothing. I believe costume is essential in bringing theatre and film to life and I would love to be a part of this creative process in the future. Although I love to sketch and design, my passion lies within costume construction, which I have discovered through my course and my placement at Nottingham Playhouse as Costume Workroom Assistant. My course has allowed me to learn and experiment with different sewing skills such as tailoring, corsetry and freestanding garments; as well as constructing non fabric elements of costume, for example within millinery and mixed materials projects. My placement offered me an important bridge into the professional world of costume, where I developed my sewing skills within a theatre setting. These projects have provided me with a strong basis of knowledge of costume construction, however I am always ambitious to improve and grow with experience.
