My name is Niamh Colling, and whilst at university I have developed a broad range of making skills including pattern drafting and cutting, millinery, leather work, breaking down, jewellery making, and embroidery. Through years of avidly watching numerous period dramas, and wishing I could wear all the garments, I have loved having the opportunity to design and create historical costumes, experimenting with how these can be adapted to fully express a character’s personality. I thoroughly enjoy designing the interactive details of a costume, allowing it to not only highlight the plot but also to become part of it. I am passionate about sustainability and have explored various ways of making my process more environmentally friendly through using recycled materials and experimenting with natural dyes. I wish to gain experience in both film and theatre, helping to bring performances to life, creating a world for an audience to immerse themselves in.
