MA Textiles 1689 My work delves into the visceral reality of violence against women, confronting the viewer with the raw brutality and lingering harm through an interplay of materials, forms and processes. This soft sculpture, meticulously crafted yet unsettling in its form, serves as both a testament and a commentary on the pervasive issue of gender-based violence. Through the medium of soft sculpture, I aim to juxtapose the tactile, inviting nature of the materials with the repulsive reality they depict. Knitting, traditionally associated with comfort and domesticity, becomes a medium for expressing the brutal realities of violence. Each stitch, carefully crafted, reflects the intricate and pervasive nature of trauma. The softness of the knitted forms starkly contrasts with the harsh, often grotesque shapes they take, embodying the tension between beauty and revulsion.
