As a passionate and forward-thinking fashion designer currently studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University, I’m dedicated to representing Portugal's rich culture. My recent project focuses on reimagining regional costumes with a contemporary aesthetic, using cork, a native material, and cherished artisan techniques like embroidery, honouring my Portuguese heritage. A project which resonated with me was the NTU X Emmanuel House, where I utilised up-cycled material to create outerwear for the homeless – it was here I found the importance of designing with purpose. As a socially sustainable designer, my purpose is to curate collections that celebrate heritage and empower artisans’ skills globally. Through the cultural exchange incorporated into my design work, I strive to forge a more sustainable path in fashion, honouring the maker’s craft. Next year, I plan to immerse myself further in the Portuguese textile world by relocating to Lisbon and engaging in the rich heritage.
