I'm a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Design student. This year I have enjoyed working with leather, challenging me to think outside of the box in order to find creative ways to achieve my designs. My product collection is named ‘Devine Dissent: Exploring Hell's Queer Fashion Aesthetic’. My concept was all about exploring the ways in which society has demonised members of the queer community. By exploring themes of religious iconography and using tougher materials such as leather to reclaim this narrative and feel confidence in embracing these themes. I have created an avant-garde silhouette through the structured skirt and corset with a large shawl on the top to embody a sense of power and elegance. It has been exciting to work on such an expressive concept and I hope to work on other projects within my career that allow the expression of the queer community through art and fashion.
