I am Iris Zhiting Guo, a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Design student. In my Final Major Project, I explored themes centred around the disappearance of human existence and the correspondence between earth and body. Looking back on my memory growing up in nature, I was inspired by the abandoned ruins I saw during a hike. Utilising the juxtaposition of natural abundance and fragility of the man-made, this project embraces the vulnerability and ephemerality of human experiences. Through investigating the ruins and the indigenous people who once lived above those lands, I want to express my gratitude for nature. Keeping sustainability in mind while creating my collection, I used zero-waste pattern cutting methods and sourced high-quality natural fibres that could eventually decay and return to nature. I hope this project rebuilds a more reciprocal relationship with the earth that ultimately offers consolation for the inevitable transience of life.
