Emily Cheung

Hi, my name is Emily and my final project is Family treasures. This project is a fun and vibrant fabric collection exploring the symbolism and craftsmanship of my mum’s traditional Chinese wedding dress. It is a treasured item within the family and will continue to be passed on to future generations within our family, preserving old memories and creating new memories along with it. The details and delicate embellishments of the dress have inspired the details within my knitted textile collection. I started my university experience on the BA (Hons) Textile Design course however soon discovered a strong passion for experimenting with knits especially with domestic machine knitting, which led me to specialise and transfer to BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear & Knitted textiles. Throughout my work, I continue to incorporate cross-disciplinary techniques such as embroidery, ceramics, crochet and macrame. After university I hope to work as a knitted textiles designer.
