Bella Klitou, a London based acrylic painter who creates monochromatic illustrative paintings which depict key moments from her journeys on the London Underground. Having grown up in the heart of London, and using the Underground daily as her primary method of transportation, Klitou developed a growing interest towards the network and projects this fascination within her artistic practice, using it as a foundation for her artworks. Inspired by the concept of ‘Flaneur social views’, and taking on the role of a silent observer, Klitou delves into how alienation can still exist among such a bustling environment like the underground. Her paintings explore how you can be both a part of and separate from an environment at the same time. In March 2024, Klitou successfully responded to a brief for “Surface Gallery Nottingham” and had her works “Hammersmith & City” (2024) and “Exit here for Euston Road” (2024) on display, within a group exhibition titled “truth or trash”.
