I am Anoushka Srivastava, a Textile Artist, weaving stories of tradition and innovation. Originating from India, I blend local textile practices with modern methods. Inspired by diverse cultures and techniques at Nottingham Trent University, my MA project, Musafir: Journeying Through Liminal Space, combines traditional Indian embroidery with Nottingham’s renowned laces. Using laser-cutting, pleating, and embroidery, I add a contemporary twist to explore the essence of living between cultures. Working with a 10-foot organza fabric symbolizing my 10-month stay in the UK and a series of artefacts, I navigate the paradox of feeling both at home and displaced. For me, Textile Design is a harmonious blend of history and modernity, preserving heritage while embracing innovation. Passionate about sustainability and revival, I draw inspiration from photography to create meaningful, enduring pieces.
