I use readymades to depict my childhood perceptions of communication, through the use of metal tins to represent my fascination with tin telephones. I have a multidisciplinary practice which ranges between installation, moving image, sculpture and sound art. I record myself engaging with mundane everyday objects in exhibition spaces, building up tin structures and proceeding to knock them down off camera. My playful and deceptively simple artworks explore the boundaries around miscommunication and communication breakdown. Sound is a destructive quality in my work. Out-of-sync audio engages issues of audience discomfort. The idea is not to present viewers with a piece of art that is easily interpreted but to provoke reflection. Stemming from studying Fine art at Nottingham Trent University, I became disinterested in painting as its all I had experienced. Opening myself up to a new way of thinking, I pushed the focus on concept and engagement, rather than the outcome itself.
