I am Taojiang Jia (she/her), an MA Textile Design student specializing in embroidery. As a Chinese international student studying in the UK, my journey in textile design has been profoundly influenced by my passion for travel and exploration. Inspired by the ancient wisdom of Qichang Dong, "读万卷书 行万里路" ("In order to attain wisdom, it is not enough merely to read books; you must be well-travelled as well"), I have sought to blend knowledge and experience into my creative process. My project, "Ten Thousand Miles of Road - Crafting a Global Journey," aims to celebrate cultural diversity through crafts and textiles. By incorporating techniques like beading, laser cutting, engraving, and digital embroidery, I explore material juxtapositions and playful arrangements of elements. I enjoy combining multiple processes through hand, machine, and digital practices, including the use of heat-reactive fabrics.
